The McKenzie Method

The McKenzie Method, also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), is a comprehensive approach to assessing and treating musculoskeletal pain, particularly in the spine. It was developed by New Zealand physiotherapist Robin McKenzie.

The method involves a thorough assessment to identify the patient’s specific movement patterns and the positions that either aggravate or relieve pain.

Benefits of the McKenzie Method:

Empowerment: Patients learn to take an active role in their recovery.

Evidence-Based: The method is supported by research and clinical outcomes.

Versatility: Effective for various conditions, including lower back pain, neck pain, and extremity issues.

Education: Patients are educated about their condition, which helps them understand their pain and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.

If you’re considering physical therapy using the McKenzie Method, it’s important to work with a certified therapist who has specialized training in this approach.
